Next day we were supposed to get up at 6 am, but we got up at 8:30 am – a little delay ;-)
A farewell photo with our hosts and we leave after 10 am. The road runs along the sea, so there is some wind. Luckily it is more from the side than against us. The turquoise colour of water in a bay near Mizhvodne is just killing me. Igor – an opponent of trips to the Baltic Sea is just waiting for the sign to pull over for a swim ;-)
We want to reach Portovoye because according to the map, it should offer nice overnight accommodation. The old man, at whose place we are supposed to stay, can barely walk and is hard of hearing, but he has got a lodging for us. A stuffy hut with 3 beds and spider webs between them, a small window which is "locked" with a nail, ubiquitous ants and an outdoor shower. The mere memory of that place makes me shiver! Well, next day we would state that we need to master the art of saying "no". Tonight we stay here. It is almost 8 pm, we are very tired and really want to take a bath. Damn, the spiders are everywhere – by the door, on the washing lines, in the shrubbery by the "lodge", in the shower, over my bed – just everywhere! Aaah! My bed is more of a trampoline which sinks into the floor with my every move. I cannot sleep, I chase something away from my mouth or nose every now and then. I wake up with my back and legs bitten by insects. What a great night! We go to the beach but come back totally disappointed - there are heaps of algae on the beach and the water is not swimmer friendly. Having packed up and taken a shower, we are leaving this place with a sigh of relief. The road is so-so – old asphalt with holes and not much is going on. Excuse me, we entered a land of lakes, rivers and canals so the mosquitoes attack seemingly from nowhere, biting as if they have been on starvation diet for years. The repellents purchased in Poland are not working. Tomorrow we will try to buy something at a local chemist's.
